A total of 84,950,000 Ugandan shillings from the Office of the Prime Minister has been used to restore 10 schools in Kisoro district that were affected by Congolese refugees.
A recent visit by Minister of Refugees Esther Anyakun Davina implied that the district did not account for the money sent by the Government to assist the affected schools after the 28th March influx of Congolese into Kisoro.
The district engineer James Karamira says the money was never sent to the district accounts but went straight to the account of the contractor after he completed his work.
Director of M/S Forward Investment that handled the project confirmed that the work was done well and said the district should not be blamed for misusing funds.
A total of 10 schools benefited from the project including Kanyampiriko Primary School, Muramba Seed Secondary School, Gisozi SDA Primary School, Gihuranda Primary School, Bunagana Pride Pre and Primary School, St. Joseph’s Gatabo Primary School, St. Paul’s Giharo Primary School, Bunagana Primary School, Teddy Bears Primary School, Gapfurizo Primary School.
