OPPOSITION DEFEATS NRM IN BUNYANGABU, RUKIGA YOUTH ELECTIONS

The ruling National Resistance Movement –NRM party has lost youth
elections in the newly created districts of Rukiga and Bunyanabu.
Nyakato Rusoke FDC mobilizer for Tooro sub-region who played a big role in Bunyangabu elections.
In Rukiga district, Zakaria Kabahweza the NRM candidate for the male youth councilor lost to independent candidate Michael Kwarikunda Mbareba.
Micheal Kwarikunda Mbareba; an independent candidate garnered 81 votes against 40 of Zakaria Kabahweza the National Resistance –NRM flag bearer.
Barbra Ainebyoona an independent candidate defeated NRM’s Adrine
Tumukunde after polling 88 votes against 34.
Micheal Mbareba the Rukiga male youth councilor elect revealed that
his victory is a clear reflection that the youth in the district do
not vote for parties but rather for people with a vision.
In Bunyangabu district FDC’s Francis Katsigazi and Lillian Katutu (independent) were yesterday declared winners after sweeping all votes, defeating their NRM opponents in youth elections.
He revealed that he will work closely with other councilors and the
district’s top leadership to ensure that issues affecting the youth in
newly created Rukiga district are addressed.
Phionah Ayebare the electoral commission presiding officer at the
voting exercise held at Buzooba Primary School Playground in Kitojo
Parish Rwamucuucu Sub County of Rukiga District revealed that the
exercise was generally peaceful and orderly.
