Over 1200 teenagers in Mbarara district have been impregnated since the beginning of lock down in March.
According to statistics obtained by www.mknewslink.com, 1203 teenagers between ages of 15-19 were impregnated during March to September this year.
Health records from Mbarara district ,city exclusive indicate that 174 teenagers got pregnant in March, 158 in April, 176 in May, 181 in June,176 in July, 147 in August and 191 in September.
It should be noted that the above cases are only those that visited health centers for antenatal services while others could have opted for other means.
The District Health Officer Dr. Peter Ssebutinde recently blamed early pregnancies on lack of reproductive health information by many children, parents and guardians.
He added that besides, some groups of people like the clergy oppose family planning methods paving a way for unwanted pregnancies in western Uganda and Uganda as a whole.
Ssebutinde implored the entire public to seek guidance on various ways of family planning to avoid such issues.
