OVER 20 PEOPLE DIE IN RUBIRIZI FUEL TANK ACCIDENT

Over 20 people are said to have lost lives after a fuel tank on Sunday burst into flames in Kyambura Trading Centre in Rubirizi District that is adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth National Park.
According to witnesses, the accident occurred after the fuel truck knocked a bus and it lost control and rammed into commuter taxis that were parked on the roadside.
The fire then spread to several buildings burning at least 8 shops.
Julius Tugumisirize, a resident of Kyambura trading centre told www.mknewslink.com that the incident occurred at around 3:30 pm and efforts by residents to put out the fire were fruitless.
Onesmus Nkesiga, whose shop was burnt, said that he lost goods worth Shs20 million.
Sincere Kansiime, another resident said that residents abandoned the rescue efforts and instead concentrated on saving property from their houses due to fear that the fire would spread further.
The injured were rushed to Lugazi health centre IV for treatment
Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi region confirmed the incident saying that it happened at around 3:30 pm.
Tumusiime said that the fire set ablaze 20 houses and turned one to ash.
Police are still investigating the matter to establish the actual figure of people involved in the fatal accident.
