In Bushenyi
At least 200 motorcycles have been impounded by police in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality for lack of riding permits and failure to adhere to traffic regulations.
They were impounded in an impromptu operation mounted in Kizinda trading centre along Kasese Mbarara road by Police this morning to crack down on unauthorized riders.
According to the Bushenyi district traffic boss AIP Julius Tushabe, most of the motorcycles were impounded because the riders had made it a habit to ferry more than one passenger on their motorcycles.
He said the owners of impounded motorcycles were either found to be unqualified riders, did not have crash helmets, had not paid third party insurance or did not have number plates.
Motorcycles have been taken to Bushenyi police Headquarters pending clearances by their owners and shall only be released after they have paid the express penalty scheme (EPS) ranging in between UGX 40,000 and 80,000.
