OVER 2000 BODA BODA RIDERS, VENDORS LIKELY TO LOSE JOBS IN NEWLY CREATED MBARARA CITY

According to the acting Town clerk Mbarara city, Theo Tibihika, no boda boda will be allowed at High street as Mbarara officially turns into city. However, www.mknewslink.com learnt that a large population of riders have been operating in sensitive areas including high street.
Tibihika while in an interview with www.mknewslink.com reporter on Wednesday 1st July 2020 in his office as Mbarara was officially promoted to a city status.
Tibihika said that they expect large multitudes of people from rural areas to embrace urban life, noting that as the interim committee managing the city they must plan for the people through creating enough space in the city center
Tibihika noted that they will not allow Boda Boda riders to operate in areas like the high Street since there will be gazetted stages meant for Boda Boda riders in the out skirts of the city center
On street vending, Tibihika said that street hawkers and street vendors will not be allowed to operate from the streets since Mbarara central market is already in its final stages to be opened officially for business.
Mbarara municipality joined other towns like Jinja, Arua, Masaka, Gulu, Mbale and Fort Portal that attained city status with effect from today 1st July 2020
