In Ibanda—
A group of over 300 veteran fighters mainly the elderly men and women from the districts of Ibanda, Kazo, Lyantonde, Kyegegwa and Kasese have appealed to the Government to pay them their retirement benefits.
The veteran fighters include UPDF, Police, Prisons and civilians who supplied commodities to NRA soldiers who were fighting during the bush war.
They claim that since then, they have not received their benefits and do not have proper healthcare, want to pay school fees among other needs.
The veterans who are aged made their resolution while meeting Apollo Mabaati, the presidential assistant advisor on security in a meeting held in Ibanda town in Ibanda municipality yesterday.
“We have spent over 35 years claiming our money but all in vain. We need a fair representation in parliament and our children who complete course at the university do not have employment,” Ms Flavia Ntarwete said.
The veterans promised to rally behind and vote for Yoweri Museveni Tibuhaburwa because they see Uganda as a place full of hope, promise and Unity.
“We can begin our life and journeys with Museveni because he has shown us love, unity, comfort and encircled us with honors,” Myress Ssesanga a former cadre said.
Ericangello Kamuhanda said that the veterans are complaining that most of them are suffering from physical disabilities on their bodies and their wives have run a way because some husbands are poor, do not have money to pay school fees for their children.
The Minister for Defence,Gen. Elly Tumwine who addressed the veterans through audio sound said that he is greatly happy with all veterans who are ready to support the National Resistance Movement and ready to vote for Yoweri Museveni Tibuhaburwa on 14.01.2021 to bring him back to power, because they are roots to rule Uganda.
“We live in a normal country and we must follow guidelines set by Electoral Commission and Ministry of health .As long as original veterans are here, I hope nobody will disturb the peace which has been enjoyed by Ugandans during the 35 years,” Gen. Tumwine warned.
