OVER 5000 TEENAGERS IMPREGNATED DURING LOCK DOWN

The number of teenage pregnancies surpasses 5000 in Kabale district from March to September according to the Kabale district health officer Dr. Alfred Besigensi.
Dr. Besigensi revealed this in the people’s parliament on Thursday at Kabale district Rukiiko hall which was under the topic “challenges of young people including increasing teenage pregnancy and the need to embrace sexual reproductive health.
Besigensi said this has also led to teenage abortions which results to death. He said that from January to September 20 teenage girls have aborted in the district.
He attributed teenage pregnancy to parents who don’t talk to their children about sexual issues saying many parents fear to talk to their children about challenges of sex before marriage.
Besigensi also blamed the rise of teenage pregnancies on exposure to Television by young children of which some of the programs mislead young people to sex like pornography.
Besigensi further said there is also misinformation on the use of contraceptives among young girls which has led to a number of worrying teenage pregnancy in the district.
Catherine Kyomugisha the Kabale District Education Officer in charge of guidance and counseling said that health facilities should have space for teenagers to avoid meeting their parents when they have gone for services.
