The casket with the body of slain Arua municipality Member of Parliament Rt.Col Ibrahim Abiriga was received at Parliament building by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga; First Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government business, Gen. Moses Ali; Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa and Commissioner Peter Ogwang among others.
The casket was immediately put on the foyer to lay in State for viewing at 9:45am
Prominent government leaders later joined the house including Vice President Edward Ssekandi, Minister of Education and First Lady Janet Museveni, Prime Minister Ruhakana Ruhunda, NRM Secretary General Kasule Lumumba, NRM National Treasurer Rose Namayanja among others.
It is later expected to be taken to the plenary for MPs to pay tribute to the former colleague.
Abiriga and his brother Said Kongo were shot at around 6:45pm at Kirinnyabigo, Kawanda, Wakiso District ,driving his widely known yellow Beetle Vintage car registration number UBB 107D, a few meters away from his residence on Friday evening by gunmen.
Kayima the police spokesperson said that couple of cartridges for an SMG assault rifle popularly known as AK 47 has been recovered at the scene.
Police have since appealed for calm and vigilance as they continue to work together to catch the criminals and prosecute them in courts of law. They encourage continued vigilance, sharing of information with security and neighborhoods to avert crime and enable quick response in case crime takes place.
Technical officers have been at the crime scene since Friday examining every detail to help in investigations.
Kayima said police were yet to establish if Abiriga and his colleague had weapons.
