PARLIAMENT’S REGIONAL SITTINGS ARE A SIGN OF IDLENESS —GODBER TUMUSHABE
The policy analyst and political commentator Godber Tumushabe has described regional parliament sitting as a sign of being idle and lacking what to do.
According to Tumushabe, nothing will be achieved through these regional sittings because a member of parliament that can fail to perform in the august house and then perform in the regional sittings.
Tumushabe a renowned critic of NRM government said this today during an interview with NBS in Kampala.
He noted that there is no need for a struggling economy to spend such monies on unnecessary regional sittings when actually parliament has its special august house where it exchanges ideas from.
He added that the voters have always had issues of performance of their members of parliament who sit in parliament and earn huge allowances without making any contribution.
However, Dan Kimosho the MP for Kazo county in western Uganda told NBS and Tumushabe that all the absentee ministers will now be able to attend and solve regional problems.
Tumushabe however said that the Ugandan parliament has been absolutely tainted by corruption charges ;6 MPs arrested, three have been bailed while the other three including Michael Mawanda Maranga of Igara East are still in custody.
He added that the speaker of parliament Annet Among has been cited in a lot of corruption activities including the 1.7 service award given to commissioners approved by the clerk and speaker, Karamoja iron sheet saga.
The NRM government critic to prove that the parliament has gone to the dogs, its presiding officer Rt. Hon. Among blocked a debate for Ssekikubo and team with required signatures to debate the censure of the four commissioners.
