Masindi general hospital which is the only referral in the district has a sub-standard theatre which has put the lives of patients in danger.
This was revealed recently during an engagement meeting of the health workers with the Resident District Commissioner Masindi.
The referral serves the communities of Masindi, Buliisa, Kiryandongo, part of Hoima and Nakasongola.
Ms. Rose Kirabira the RDC Masindi has asked the ministry of health to consider constructing a bigger theatre at Masindi General Hospital to ease the work of medical workers.
The president’s representative noted that the theatre is too small and congested with poor ventilation, sterilization adding one can easily contract infections during operation.
“Masindi should be constructed a real theatre, when you look at the size of the theatre table, it looks too weak. I’m expecting government to assist this hospital,” She added.
Earlier, Masindi district officials wrote to the government asking for the construction of a bigger and better Masindi general hospital, but Rose Kirabira said that the construction of a bigger hospital might be a longer process adding that renovation of the Masindi theatre should be done urgently to save people’s lives.
Dr. Simon Baguma the Masindi general hospital administrator explained that people who are operated at Masindi general hospital are many compared to the cases which are referred.
He also revealed that they can have one referral in a week or don’t have, and they operate between 4 – 10 patients a day.
