PEDAL CYCLIST KNOCKED DEAD IN RUBANDA ACCIDENT

In Rubanda—

Police in Rubanda are investigating circumstances under which a drunk man was knocked dead by motor vehicle.

The deceased was knocked while staggering with the bicycle in the road along Kabale Kisoro highway.

Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional police spokesperson identified the deceased  Pius Byaruhanga a 23 year old resident of Kamuterere village Kakore parish Hamurwa sub county Rubanda district.

According to Maate, the deceased was knocked by motor vehicle registration number UAY 295S Mitsubishi Fuso white in colour with a driver Edson Ssekitoreko a resident of Bwaise Kawempe Division Kampala district.

Maate narrated that the Cause of accident was reckless riding by the pedal cyclist who was drunk staggering with the bicycle in the road.

The accident occurred on 23/02/2022 at about 19:50hrs at Hakakondogoro trading center, Hamurwa sub-county along Kabale-  Kisoro highway.

Police were notified, scene was visited and processed by OC CID and team, postmortem was conducted at Kabale referral hospital.

The case of fatal accident has since been registered at Rubanda Police station under reference number TAR 09/2022.

Motor vehicle is now parked at Rubanda CPS pending inspection while the driver is under detention.
