PLE:IBANDA SCHOOLS PERFORM POORLY DUE TO FAMINE

A total of 3122 pupils who sat for primary leaving examination UNEB in Ibanda district, only 259 scored the first Division, while 1522 obtained division two, 378 division three, 318 Division four, 308 in U with 144 coming in division X.
The inspector of the schools, Mr. Peter Nsiimire told the www.mknewslink.com that Kanoni 11 primary school in Rukiri sub county leads UPE aided schools in PLE with 12 candidates in first grade out of over 60 pupils who sat for examinations in 2017.
St. Paul’s primary school in Igorora town council became the first leading in private schools at the district level.
According to Nsiimire, St. Paul’s primary school has 28 in first Division and 7 candidates in the second Division out of 35 who sat for 2017 PLE exams.
However other good performing private schools include, Good hope junior school in Sigirira,Kihani with 12candidates in first Division and 27 in second out of 39 who sat for the exams.
The director Mr.Gastone Ndisasirwa of Sigirira Primary school, praised parents, teachers and pupils for the work well done and promised a better performance this year.
He said some of the schools which excelled passed through hard conditions as they did not get text books from the ministry of Education, some lack qualified teachers.
He noted that many parents failed to send children with packed food because the year 2017 was faced with famine as the drought hit many areas leaving many villages without enough food.
