POLICE RECOVERS NEW BORN BABY STOLEN FROM MASINDI MATERNITY WARD

Police in Masindi district on Sunday night recovered a three day old baby girl stolen from Masindi general hospital maternity ward.
The suspect identified as Jude Achidru accessed Masindi general hospital ward and disappeared with the baby after claiming she was studying with the baby’s mothers sister in-law .
On leaving the ward, Achidru didn’t surface, this prompted the baby’s mother to check outside the ward only to be be told that the Achidru left the hospital promises.
Achidru who smartly vacated the hospital premises was Sunday at around 11pm was arrested by the police in Nyabigoma village Budongo sub county Masindi district.
Her arrest followed a report from a resident who alerted journalists and later informed the police which swung into action.
Achidru told journalists after her arrest that she recently conceived but got miscarriage. She said that this forced her to steal a baby from Masindi general hospital maternity ward.
According to Achidru’s guardian who chose anonymity, he got a phone call from Achidru’s husband telling him that she has given birth at Masindi general hospital.
He however directed the husband to go and pick her since he was at the burial. Achidru’s guardian also told our reporter that he was surprised to hear that Achidru has given birth yet she wasn’t pregnant.
While speaking to our reporter at the handover of the baby, Sarah Nanjinga the baby’s mother expressed her happiness and said that she didn’t have hope of seeing her newly born baby.
She asked fellow mothers to take care of their children.
By the time we filed this story, Jude Achidru was detained at Masindi CPS and the baby was in the hands of the mother pending medical examination.
Police weren’t ready to give a comment by the time we published this story.
