POLICE USE TEARGAS TO DISPERSE KABALE STUDENTS

Anti-riot police on Sunday 21st October 2018 fired tear gas to disperse angry students after the Kabale District Guild Leaders Association-KADGLA final football competitions for boys ended prematurely. The riot followed a controversial decision by a referee during penalty shootouts.
Trouble erupted at around 06:00PM during the spot kicks in a final football game between Kabale University and Uganda College of Commerce-UCC Kabale after a goalless draw. The game which was played at Kigezi High School Lower playground in Kabale Municipality had ended a goalless draw in 90 minutes.
The referee Chance Akampa allegedly awarded a false goal to UCC in spot kicks.
Kabale University players and students led by their goal Keeper Andrew Nkurunungi turned furious against the referee for okaying the penalty claiming that it had not entered the net, forcing anti-riot police under the commander of the Field Force Unit at Kabale Police Station,Henry Kisembo,to intervene tocalm the situation.
The KADGLA President who is also the guild president of Bishop Barham University College (BBUC) Simon Turyakira says that the match was boycotted until the KADGLA Executive committee sits and discusses the fate of the matter.
The competitions which started on Friday had attracted seven institutions that include; Uganda College of Commerce (UCC-Kabale), African College of Commerce and Technology (ACCT-Kabale), National Teachers College (NTC-Kabale), Bishop Barham University College (BBUC), Kabale University,Uganda Martyrs University Kabale (UMU) and AICM- College of Science and Technology.
