Poor performance in schools has been attributed to teachers’ failure to complete syllabus in time.
According to the National Inspector of Schools Lauben Mugarura, most of the teachers don’t finish syllabus which affects students when it comes to examinations.
Facilitating in a one day head teachers’workshop at Bushenyi Municipal Multipurpose hall, Mugarura noted that, home works and exercise works should be given out to learners as a way of assessment and supervision. He added that this will help to determine whether students have learnt what they have been taught.
He thus advised the teachers to ensure they complete syllabus so as to prepare students for the final examinations
Mugarura said that teachers should not administer corporal punishments to learners who don’t learn quickly but rather help them since not all learners can learn at the same rate.
Kyakuwa Adam councilor for Nyabubare subcounty who represented Ms Peace Tibakuna the secretary for social works called upon head teachers to cooperate and involve political leaders when planning for their respective schools.
He said political leaders are a link between government and the people thus can help the head teachers to get resources from the local government
