The two popular FDC diehards have lost Rukungiri primary election to a little-known Dr. Warren Tumwine as the FDC flag bearer for the Rukungiri Municipality MP seat.
In the party primaries held in Rukungiri municipality, Dr. Tumwine garnered 130 votes, while the incumbent MP Mugume Rolland Kaginda got 62, FDC mobilisation secretary Ingrid Turinawe got 65. The other contestants, Mr. Benon Rwenzigye, Mr. Herbert Mbabazi Kawawa and Mr. Francis Musimire got no vote.
The poll results are a shock to the party given that Mr Kaginda has been the FDC vice chairman for western region and the deputy opposition chief whip in Parliament. It remains unclear whether he will go Independent.
Equally, Charles Makuru also won the mayorship seat for Rukungiri municipal council with 82 votes, Darius Tweyamba got 80 votes, Kiconco Alban got 72, Gershom Twesigye got 22 while Amon Bweyakye got only 1 vote.
Over the weekend, Betty Bamukwatsa Muzanira and Martin Byomuhangi won FDC party flags in Rukungiri for the positions of Woman MP and District Chairman, respectively.
Speaking with journalists after the elections, Dr. Wallen Tumwine said that he is ready to defend the flag asking people to continue supporting him if he is to defend the flag.
