PPDA THREATENS TO TERMINATE MULTIPLEX CONTRACT OVER DELAYED CONSTRUCTION WORKS ON THREE MBARARA CITY ROADS.
By Twesigye Aggrey.
Officials from public procurement and disposal of public assets authority have threatened to terminate the contract awarded to MULTIPLEX over delayed construction works on three city roads.
In May last year 2021 Mbarara city council awarded a contract to MULTIPLEX to work on three city roads which include Stanley road 0.78Km, Major victor Bwana road 0.95km, Galt road 0.63Km at a cost of 23billion ugx which were projected to last only 12 months but surprisingly the contractor has not even delivered a half of the work.
Addressing journalists yeserday in Mbarara city, Benson Turamye the Executive Director PPDA says the contract was scheduled to be completed by 18. 05.2022 But the work is behind schedule
He adds that the government consultant will audit the remaining portion of work before awarding the contractor more time.
However Moses Bbosa the managing director MULTIPLEX is committed that works on the three city roads will be done if they are given a five months extension.
He adds that they have encountered a number of challenges ranging from electricity poles and water pipes of National water and sewerage corporation in the roads which he blames on Mbarara city council authorities who never cleared the site ground in time.
Relatedly, the city mayor Mbarara city Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi called on MULTIPLEX officials to utilize the extension period which will be granted to them profitably in order to deliver the stalled project within that specific time frame.
