The Priest of Kitanga Parish under the Kabale Diocesse Rev. Father Gaetano Batanyenda has accused President Museveni of betraying Ugandans in the fight against corruption in Parliamentarians.
Fr. Gaetano who also doubles as the Chairperson of the Inter- Religious Council Of Uganda for Kigezi Region, was speaking in a Press conference that was held at the offices of Kick Corruption out of Uganda in Kabale District.
He castigated Museveni for dishing out 40m to each of the 317 Mps who voted ‘‘yes†in the removal of Presidential Age Limit from the constitution about three years ago.
According to reports, the 40m was part of the 100m pledge that was made to the NRM Mps before they succeeded in removing the only barrier that would stop Museveni from contesting again in the 2021 presidential elections.
Fr. Gaetano said he had thanked President Museveni for opposing the 20m shillings that was allocated to each Mp as facilitation for participating in the fight against Covid 19.
However, the Priest said he is now disappointed with the President after he gave the same Mps 40m, a double amount of the initial fund. He described it as betrayal to Ugandans
He also accused Museveni of trying to win political favour from Mps through doubling the amount that was allocated to them by the Parliamentary Commission.
Fr. Gaetano described the recent scuffle between Parliament led by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and the Executive led by President Museveni as a diversionary fight.
He asked Ugandans not to accept any diversion from demanding accountability amidst the fight against Covid 19.
