President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered that fresh NRM primary elections be held in 84 villages of Nyabushozi county, Kiruhura district.
It should be noted that the previous elections were marred by violence among other irregularities.
Museveni who is the NRM National party chairman made the orders during the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting at State house Entebbe on Thursday, Oct ,8th 2020 following the public outcry, while the loser Wilson Kajwengye accuses incumbent of having a hand in irregularities.
Mwesigye was declared the winner with 54,996 votes yet the total vote count for the district woman member of parliament held on the same day was 41,629 votes which caused numerous questions.
Several CEC members said that the committee determined that fresh elections would clear all doubts about the credibility of the electoral process and new polling date is expected to be set soon.
Initially, the National party chairman had guided that fresh elections be conducted in 28 villages but they didn’t happen after Wilson Kajwengye boycotted the election on Oct,6,2020 while another candidate Bakashaba Christopher had lost interest in the exercise.
Mwesigye was thus on Thursday forwarded to CEC by party electoral commission chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi as the duly elected Nyabushozi county NRM MP flag bearer but his victory was questioned and rejected by CEC.
