The Independent presidential candidate Gen Henry Tumukunde has been warmly welcomed by his supporters in Kanungu district shortly after launching his manifesto in his home district of Rukungiri in the main stadium.
Gen. Tumukunde entered Kanungu town crowded by boda boda guys, old and young people who accompanied him to Kanungu district main stadium where he addressed the masses.
Before reaching the district main stadium, Gen Tumukunde was first stopped on the way by security operatives for a couple of minutes but he was later allowed to continue but escorted by security officers.
While addressing the masses in the district main stadium, Gen. Tumukunde hailed the people of Kanungu for welcoming him saying that it was his pleasure and he is so humbled for their welcome.
“It is my pleasure that I have been welcomed in such a manner. I never expected this but this only explains the support you are having for me. Thank you the people of Kanungu,” Gen. Tumukunde said.
Gen. Tumukunde told the masses that this is a revolutionary election saying that If this is a boxing ring, the bell has rung, he has entered the ring on behalf of Ugandans trapped in misery and suffering adding that he will not surrender until Ugandans are liberated.
“I have entered the struggle whether shinning or raining i will have to fight until we are liberated from the corrupt national resistance movement government that has benefited few leaving many dying of poverty yet they are paying taxes on a daily basis,” Gen Tumukunde noted.
In the manifesto, Gen Tumukunde promises to improve service delivery in the country, changes in governance, health, human rights, water and electricity extension, fighting corruption, promotion of trade and industry, promotion of agriculture among others.
Gen. Tumukunde also promised to continue fighting poverty, develop infrastructure, and promote tourism industry and rule of the law.
At around 4:30 pm, Gen. Tumukunde left for Kisoro district but left his supports chanting his name and some even escorted him up to the boarder point of Kanungu district under tight security.
Gen. Tumukunde is among the 11 presidential candidates who were nominated by the Electoral commission last week to run with the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni and it should be remember that Kanungu district has been voting NRM a hundred percent since 2001 when reform agenda started.
