PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE KATUMBA FAILS TO TURN UP FOR CAMPAIGNS IN RUKUNGIRI

The Independent Presidential candidate John Katumba has failed to show up for his campaigns in Rukungiri.
Katumba, the youngest candidate in the presidential race was expected to campaign in Rukungiri yesterday for his first campaign in the Kigezi sub region after campaigning in great Ankole region of Mbarara on Friday.
However, Katumba’s supporters got disappointed after they waited to see their candidate, but by 6pm he had not yet appeared in Rukungiri.
Ivan Mugisha, a resident of western division in Rukungiri municipality said that he had waited from morning after he received news that John Katumba will be campaigning in Rukungiri.
Mugisha said after listening to the campaign message of Lt.Gen Henry Tukumuda and FDC’s Patrick Amuriat, he now wanted to compare Katumba’s message with those of the two presidential candidates who have already visited Rukungiri district to allow him take a mature decision before casting his vote on 14th January 2021.
“I wanted to compare Katumba’s campaign message with the some of the presidential candidates who have already visited our district but it is so unfortunate that he has failed to turn up but I will keep on waiting for him any time I hear that he is to come I will also come to listen to his message.” Mugisha said.
Nathan Kanyesigye, a resident of Ruhinda sub- County in Rukungiri district said that being the youngest among the eleven presidential candidates in the race, he wanted to hear what he had to say during the campaign in Rukungiri town.
Kanyesigye was still hopeful that he would turn up any time such that he can deliver message to the people of Rukungiri.
“I was here since morning waiting for Katumba, you see being the youngest of all, I very much want to listen to him because he is always on Tv’s and some of us don’t have so I really miss but am very hopeful that I will see him next time he comes to our district.” Kanyesigye said.
Henry Kintu, the Rukungiri District Police Commander told our reporter that as police they expected Katumba, but he did not show up saying that they will wait for him on any other day.
“We were expecting Katumba today but he has failed to show up as police we don’t have any official communication from the candidate but we shall wait for time any time he comes “Kintu said.
When our reporter contacted Katumba, he said that he was to campaign in Rukungiri yesterday after campaigning in Mbarara on Friday evening but he returned to Kampala to attend the burial ceremony of Sheikh Muzata.
“Yes it is true I was to campaign in Rukungiri but I returned back to Kampala to attend the sendoff ceremony of Sheikh Muzata. Am very sorry for the disappointment to my supporters. Let them forgive me but I have already set another day for them which I have already submitted to the electoral commission” Katumba said.
Katumba becomes the third presidential candidate who has failed to appear in Rukungiri district for campaigning after Willy Magambala and Fred Mwesigye also failed to turn up.
