PRESS RELEASE FROM MUST: WE DID NOT AWARD A FAKE PHD TO ANY CANDIDATE
In Mbarara
Mbarara University of Science and Technology has come out to refute the ongoing social media false allegations about the university awarding a wrong Ph.D. to the wrong person.
The university came up with the official statement on the alleged fake news by one of the news website;
“Dear colleagues, On 13th July 2020, Campus Bee published a news article on their website whose title I can’t disclose because I am not a promoter of the said article. There is a very big mismatch between the article’s title and its body or content. Unfortunately, in the same article, my name appears in it without my consent because I never had an interview with the publisher. When you carefully read and analyze the article’s title, it is indirectly attacking the families of the victims and it has too many consequences and side effects on the victims’ families. Our old petition was strictly focused on academic issues. Please I want to distance myself from anyone or group that undermines family values,“
According to the press release signed by the academic registrar Martha Kyoshaba Twinamatsiko and Director Research and Graduate training Assoc. Prof. Vincent Batwala, MUST distances itself completely from the said article.
The press release adds that any information concerning the students’ academic affairs and graduation is given by the office of the academic registrar.
MUST clarifies that the university admissions committee admitted Edith Wakida the student in question with conformance to the laws governing admissions for the Doctor of philosophy not Doctor of philosophy in psychiatric as alleged by the article.
The release also notes that the student in question has not yet completed her course thus there is no way the university could award a student who has not graduated.
