Joseph Isingoma 35, a resident of Masamba village Kikuube parish Kiryandongo Sub County in Kiryandongo district has resorted to farming after earning little from teaching.
The former primary teacher at Kigumba C.O.U explains that the little earnings from teaching for 10 years have forced him to concentrate on farming.
“I officially resigned in 2014 after failing to achieve my goals in the career,” He adds.
As a developmental gentleman, Isingoma says he has wasted a lot of time in civil service noting that he picked interest in farming after attending farmers’ workshops where different farmers shared in their experience on how they could harvest money in farming.
Joseph adds that after the workshop, he came out with an interest of growing pineapple, and eventually carried out enough research, and started with 2000 suckers on a small piece of land which he critically maintained with the little money he could get from teaching.
After 18 months, Isingoma started earning money from the project. “I started earning 25m after every three months, and eventually left teaching that could earn me only 500,000shs per month am now self-employed,” He notes.
He also explains he faces challenges among them; insufficient capital, marketing, theft, and seasonal change mostly dry season where by most pineapples are affected by sunshine.
Isingoma has appealed to fellow teachers, and friends to join him in the world of self-employment.
