PS KUMUMANYA WARNS UGANDANS AGAINST ANNOUNCING DEATH OF PEOPLE WHILE STILL ALIVE
By Wilber Muhwezi Kasibante
In Kampala—
Ben Kumumanya the Permanent secretary for ministry Local government has warned Ugandans against declaring people who are alive as dead.
Kumumanya was responding to a social media post which alleged that so many Chief Administrative Officers have succumbed to COVID 19.
He said that this is not true but confirmed the death of Kapchorwa and Rubirizi Chief Administrative Officers who died early this week.
The PS emphasized that culturally, death of a person is announced by the bereaved family but not everybody as social media users do these days.
He noted that such announcements and messages posted on different forums traumatize people instead of giving them hope.
He added that even at burials; church, mosque and government leaders give people hope but not despair as is a case during this COVID 19 period.
He called upon genuine people to report more on recoveries than those who have died after all, the number of recoveries is high compared to the fallen ones.
Uganda has so far registered 79977 cases of COVID 19, 52961 recoveries and 1023 deaths ever since the pandemic broke out in March 2020.
