The work to renovate Bassajabalaba mosque in Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality commenced 17th May 2018 months after it was destroyed.
The mosque was demolished by unknown thugs on Wednesday 24th January during a saga of overthrowing the district Kaadhi, Sheikh Mubarak Kateinama Baryamujura and his council accusing them of peddling Islam faith in Bushenyi and arranging deals to grab land belonging to the mosque which house Basajjabalaba primary and secondary schools, a
washing bay and many others.
They were also accused of failing to safeguard Uganda Muslim Supreme Council assets, fuelling disagreements among Muslims, renting district Kadhi’s premises and plotting a deal to steal property and land belonging to Muslims.
A section of Muslims resolved that Sheikh Katainama and members of the council who include; Hajji Adam Nsubuga, his deputy, Abdu Maaso, Adam Semugabe and a one Kiyimba be overthrown and a petition be made to the Mufti for further action.
This prompted Mfuti of Uganda His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje to issue a notice temporarily closing the mosque as the wrangles deepened in prevention of any bloodshed despite the fact that days later a girl was shot during the protest to reopen it.
Since then the mosque has been under the protection of military police officers denying Muslims access until its official reopening.
The renovation started at a time when all Muslims across the world started fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.
