Residents in Masindi have raised concern over the stinking smell that comes out of the dead bodies kept in Masindi general hospital mortuary.
The residents raised this concern today Saturday 27th March 2021 during a two day training workshop for Patriots held at King George Stadium in Masindi District.
Vincent Mukonyenzi a participant said that it is always difficult for relatives of the deceased to get their corpses because of the strong stinking smell that welcomes them after the decay of the bodies.
However, Masindi District Health Officer, DHO Dr. Patrick Baguma said that the hospital has only a room where they keep corpses for a while as they wait for their relatives but it is not a mortuary.
He added that the room is not standard since it lacks preservers, fridges for preserving the bodies, the reason as to why they decay and later smell.
“We are planning on the installation of preservers to curb body decay in the room,” he noted.
Masindi General Hospital is the main referral hospital in the district with increased number of referrals.
