RESIDENTS PETITION DISTRICT SPEAKER DEMANDING FOR TRANSFER OF MASINDI RDC

Over 250 people calling themselves concerned residents of Masindi district have petitioned the district speaker demanding for the transfer of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Godfrey Nyakahuma from the district.
The petition signed by residents from all the sub counties in the district was delivered to the speaker Moses Kiirya at his office on Friday by the lead petitioner Julius Kirungi from Karujubu division accompanied by five others who claimed they represented rest of the petitioners.
They included: Lydia Kugonza from Pakanyi sub county, Ezekiel Kasaija who is also the chairperson Kasongoire LC1 in Budongo Sub County, Robert Kiiza from Kabango town council and Samuel Barongo from Pakanyi Sub County.
Kirungi who yesterday led the petitioners to follow up the matter in the speaker’s office accused RDC Nyakahuma of fueling the conflicts that have happened in the district .
He cited out oppressing the poor, protecting corrupt people, poor working relationship, retarding development in the district developments among others.
While talking to the petitioners, speaker Moses Kiirya noted that petitioning is a constitutional right and one of the legal means through which residents can express their grievances.
He assured them that the petition would be submitted to the council business committee for consideration and would eventually be brought to council for discussion.
When contacted for a comment on the matter, RDC Nyakahuma declined to comment saying he would do so after receiving the copy of the petition.
He however said the petitioners are being used by local politicians as a way of fighting him.
