RETIRED GENDER COMMISSIONER LAID TO REST IN IBANDA

State Minister for Gender, Labor and social services, Ms. Peace Mutuuzo has urged Ibanda residents to screen for non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes as a preventive measure.
The State Minister who is also Member of Parliament for Bunyangabu, Ms. Mutuuzo was speaking to hundreds of mourners who turned up to pay their last respect to one of Ugandas leading scientists and the first female commissioner of Gender, labour and social services Ms. Elizabeth Kyasimiire Mwesigye at Kikucu LC 1, Bisheeshe division in Ibanda Municipality
Mutuuzo described Kyasimiire as loving, hard working, mentor, industrious and a mother to the nation.
“She was the first woman to introduce a number of reforms that steered the ministry of gender, labour and social services to greater heights,” Ms. Mutuuzo explained.
Ms. Kyasimiire passed away at Nsambya hospital on Thursday after battling with the cancer of the breasts, liver and kidneys
According to the husband Mr. Fred Mwesigye,his wife Ms. Elizabeth was diagnosed with cancer of the breasts, kidney three years ago, was treated at Mulago cancer institute, but the disease came back later.
“My wife was calm, patient, a pillar of the family and a person of deep honesty,” Mwesigye said.
