Police in the Greater Bushenyi region have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of 72-year-old Godfrey Nyehangane, a retired teacher from Sheema District. The suspects, identified as Victor Magezi (22), Stuart Turyasingura (20), and Kato Stephen (17), all worked for the deceased.
According to SP Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, the arrests followed the use of a police sniffer dog, which led investigators to the trio. The murder occurred on Wednesday night in Nyamitanga Cell, Kakunyu Ward, Sheema Municipality.
The assailants reportedly stole several items from the victim’s home, including a flat-screen TV and a mobile phone. Preliminary investigations revealed that Nyehangane’s body was found tied up, with blood coming from his mouth and nose, indicating that suffocation may have been the cause of death.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for a postmortem.
