RUBANDA PWDS DECRY BEING LEFT OUT IN ALL GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS

The people living with Disabilities in Rubanda district have raised an alarm of being left out in all government programs aimed at improving the livelihood of the locals.
They revealed this yesterday during the official launching of the distribution of 450 wheelchairs within the district by Hon Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda who is the president of Green Environment promotion (GEP) a charity organization operating in Rubanda and Kigezi sub region at large.
They revealed that they have been facing a lot of difficulties to get in public places like churches, Markets, Health centers among others without the wheelchairs.
They showed concern on how they have been left out in all government programs and that the few aid that comes also ends up in pockets of officers at the district and sub county level.
Atuheire Rovina a PWD who got a stroke at 10 yrs. A resident of Rushekye village, Karengyere Parish Muko sub county who has been practicing art craft for the last 17 years said that she has not got any help from the government apart from Hon Evelyne kikafunda who has been purchasing her finished art craft finished baskets.
Atuheire challenged fellow PWDs to stop begging for money but rather use their hands to develop themselves saying Disability is not Inability
Muhumuza Teophil the Lc5 councilor representing the PWDs at the district blamed the community development officers at the sub county levels for not sensitizing the PWDs about the new government programs within the district.
He applauded hon Kikafunda who has empowered the PWDs with different skills ranging from art craft to construction of Houses.
