RUBANDA SCIENTISTS, RESEARCHERS WANT 4BN FINANCIAL BOOST FROM GOVERNMENT

Scientists and researchers at Kachwekano Zonal Agriculture Research
Institute in Rubanda district asked government to increase on funding of research and innovations, if they are to boost the country’s economy.
The call was made yesterday during the impromptu visit of the Assistant
Commissioner of Policy and Planning in the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations Jennifer Muwuliza at the facility in Rubanda district.
The commissioner was in a countrywide documentation of all innovations and research projects, with the aim of rendering support to the most productive ones.
According to the Director Kachwekano Zonal Agriculture Research Institute
Dr Alex Barekye, the institute gets 1.5billion shillings every financial year. He said that researchers and innovators need a financial boost of about 4 billion shillings every financial year to be able to facilitate the incubation processes of their innovations.
The Assistant Commissioner of Policy and Planning in the ministry of
Science, Technology and Innovations Jennifer Muwuliza acknowledged the
low funding in the sector but said that government will continue to offer
funding to the body as President Yoweri Museveni pledged. She commended the efforts and works done by scientists as a bid to improve on the country’s
economy.
