The minister for health and the state minister for finance and economic planning were yesterday shocked at Rubaya health center IV after they found plucked tea leaves stored in one of the Out Patient Department (OPD) which violates the rights of the patients.
During her visit in the health facility Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng found out that authorities at the facility harvest their tea leaves inside a health facility in one of the Out Patient Department (OPD) which should be used by the patients as a waiting room.
Dr.Acheng was visiting health facilities of Kigezi sub region which include Kabale, Rubanda, Kanungu, Rukungiri, Kisoro, Rubanda and Rukiga.
The minister tasked Rubaya Healthy Center IV incharge Dr. Fortunate Tukwasibwe to explain why they use OPD as a temporary store for their harvested tea leaves.
In defence, Fortunate said that they keep tea in the OPD because they currently don’t have where to store it yet it generates income for the health center.
The minister then gave a directive to the authorities at the facility to quickly look for other means of storing their tea adding that the facility should not be used for any other business.
Dr. Acheng also discovered that at medicine at Rugrama Hospital which is located in Kabale Municipality is kept medicine down on the floor.
