Rugarama Hospital in kabale Municipality Kabale District is stranded with two children suffering from Cerebral Palsy Disease and septic burns
On 24th April 22 the five yrs old girl Trust Niwakora and a resident of Mushanje cell, Nyakishenyi Parish Ikumba sub county Rubanda District went with her mother Anna Tumuheirwe to a church which is administered by the pastor only Identified Gerald
It’s alleged that Niwakora was too hungry and could not wait to finish the service and decided to go back home with her age mates to have something to eat.
On reaching home they found a pan of beans boiling on fire and unfortunately Niwakora, who was so close to the fireplace, her dress caught fire and burnt all her right hand side ribs.
Sources obtained by our reporter have it that had it not been the cries from the helpless child that attracted her grandfather for the rescue, Niwakora could have died.
It’s alleged that the parents Joshua Tumuheirwe and Anna Tumuheirwe Opted for local herbs until the wounds became septic before taking her to Rugarama Hospital for care.
Speaking to our reporter, at Rugarama Hospital, Dr Ivan Tayebwa the medical officer on Medical Surgical ward said previously Trust was their patient for almost two month but because of the final strains, the mother decided to take the child from the hospital without the knowledge of the doctors.
. He added that her wound was ready for skin draft (cutting skin from other parts of the body, mainly the buttocks and putting it on the injured part.) before they took off on 2nd June 2022.
Tayebwa said the hospital got concerned and started searching for the patient and found her abandoned in the pastor’s house.
He added that after tracing the child, the parents took off to unknown destinations.
Tayebwa said that they have restarted the whole process dressing the wounds since Saturday 9th July when she was brought back and that they are trying all means using the hospital resources to save her life.
He also revealed that it’s so unfortunate that they are not receiving any support from the parents.
He attributed everything to the fear of financial strains from the hospital. He however said that Rugarama hospital puts life at first and the rest come later saying that as the hospital, they were willing to offer all the available services to the innocent child.
Tayebwa challenged parents to be careful whenever they have children below 10 yrs. And called upon the public to support the innocent child.
Cue in…Dr Tayebwa.
Loy Bariyanga the paternal grandmother of Trust Niwakora said that the parents took the child at Pastor Gerald’s house shunning Rugarama Hospital where she had been nursing the Injuries
She added that she spends 15,000sh on a daily basis yet she has no job, so she called for support from the well-wishers.
Bariyanga also said that when she tried to make phone calls to the parent (Joshua Tumuheirwe), her phone was put in Black list.
She however showed concern on how Joshua Married other wives in Kabale town and ended up leaving Trust Helpless in the hospital
Joshua is a lorry driver in Kabale Town and Anna is a casual laborer in Rubanda district.
