RUKIGA POLICE OFFICER, PEDESTRIAN PERISH IN NASTY ACCIDENT

Police in Kabale is investigating circumstances under which two people including a police officer died after they were involved in an accident along Kabale Mbarara highway in Muhanga town council Rukiga District.
According to the Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the accident occurred on Saturday at around 12:30 PM in Rwabahanzi cell, Muhanga central ward, Muhanga town council Rukiga District.
The accident occured after an over speeding motor vehicle UBF 422N Canter that was being driven by Matsiko Lucky 20.
Matsiko is a resident of Kagango cell, Kagango ward in Rubare town council of Ntungamo district who is on the run as he was driving from Ntungamo heading to Kabale.
The Motor vehicle lost control and crossed to the right lane and knocked down a motorcycle UP 8582 which was being ridden by Rukiga CLO ASP Kato Asiimwe Richard 59, residing in Rukiga police Barracks who was heading towards Ntungamo direction from Muhanga.
The Motor vehicle went ahead, knocked trees on the road side where branches hit Barigye Paul 52 of Rwabahazi cell Muhanga Town council who was coming from his garden heading home.
The duo was rushed to Makanga hospital in Kabale where they were later pronounced dead.
A team of Police officers led by Rukiga District Police Commander SP Niwagaba Hussein visited the scene and documented it.
Maate said that both the vehicle and motorcycle were toured to Muhanga Police station on pending IOV and a serious road accident was registered at Rukiga CPS as Police continue to hunt for a driver.
