The Rukiga District Woman MP Hon Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi has raised a red flag on Geses Uganda Limited for not employing the locals on the ongoing construction of Bukinda Sed secondary school.
Geses Uganda Limited is the company that was contracted to construct the Bukinda sed secondary school in Buzoba cell, Kandago Parish Bukinda subcounty Rukiga District.
Speaking to our reporter yesterday after the tour of the Bukinda Sed secondary school site, Hon Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi showed concern on the high numbers of workers at the site outside the district doubling that of the natives.
Kamusiime showed bitterness to the site engineer Mr. Tumukunde Amon for employing potters from Rukungiri, Ntungamo and other districts leaving the locals unemployed.
“This is our district and our people must benefit from any of the project, am not going to allow you to bring potters from other districts yet we have locals who have qualifications but are unemployed “Kamusiime vowed.
Kamusiime said that its absurd that out of the 30 workers at the construction site, only 6 are natives of Rukiga District.
However, in his defense, the site engineer Mr. Tumukunde Amon said that the locals always disappear after receiving their payment and come back when the payment has been finished yet the construction company has the limited time to hand over the site.
He added that the locals are always impatient to wait for their payments over the week saying that they always want to be paid on a daily basis which they can’t manage.
The legislature further appealed the site engineer to leave behind something visible for the community like construction of the kyerero road that links the Sed school with Muhanga kisizi road, construction of boreholes, teacher’s quarters among others for the good of his name.
She added that in other districts which she has traveled in, contractors and engineers leave something behind visible for the community to benefit from unlike Rukiga district.
The site engineer Mr Tumukunde Amon said that they had a meeting on thursday where they agreed on constructing and marge only the 3kms kyerero road but not constructing boreholes, teacher’s quarters among others saying that those where not included in their contract.
