One person died on the spot last evening in a hit and run accident in Rukungiri district.

Elly Maate the Kigezi region Police spokesman says the accident involved  a Toyota Hiace vehicle registration number UBC 107C and an unknown motor vehicle.

The driver of motor vehicle registration number UBC 107C, Kamadi Katongore of Rukungiri central ward, Rukungiri municipality died on spot.

Coording to Maate, the accident occurred at Rwabigangura village along Rukungiri Ntungamo highway when the deceased was reportedly driving from Ntungamo going to Rukungiri and his vehicle was hit by a yet unknown vehicle, which was heading towards Ntungamo.

Maate says Police visited the scene, conveyed the body to Rwakabengo health center 111 for postmortem and the vehicle was towed up to Buyanja police station pending iov inspection.

He says Inquiries are ongoing as well as the hunt for the motor vehicle involved that caused the accident.
