A fisherman who was arrested on Rwenshama landing site in Rukungiri district for trying to move to the fish breeding area is battling for his life after he was allegedly beaten by security operatives.
Sunday Batura, who is now admitted at Kalori Lwanga Hospital Nyakibare was arrested alongside 5 others before he was beaten into a coma and his leg broken by security operatives.
Batura told www.mknewslink.com reporter that he was rushed to the hospital by Lt. Bernard Bingana, who also offered him 50,000 shillings as upkeep at the hospital.
My biggest worry is that since I am bedridden, I have no one to clear my hospital bills which puts my life at risk,” Batura said.
Lt. Bingana who heads security on Rwenshama fishing site denies the allegations adding that Batura and his friends will have to face the law after he is discharged from the hospital.
He says they were in breach of law, since they used illegal fishing nets and were fishing from breeding zones.
