RUKUNGIRI DHO IN TROUBLE OVER THE ILLEGAL SALE OF GOVERNMENT DRUGS

The office of the Rukungiri resident district commissioner has impounded an assortment of drugs and equipment belonging to the government which were found in two private clinics in Buhunga subcounty Rukungiri district .
An operation led by the Rukungiri deputy Resident district Commissioner Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom recovered 17 types of medicine belonging to government in St Sabina health center 11 a private clinic in Omurusheshe trading centre and other government medical equipment in Julius Tukamusiima’s clinic found in omukaragara trading center all in Buhunga sub county .
Julius Tukamusiima is a health worker at Bugangari health center 4 .
Anitah Rwakyitonera, a nurse working with St Sabina health centre after being caught with government-labeled drugs, said they always get these drugs from the district health office Rukungiri.
Julius Tukamusiima took off after being notified that government drugs had been found in his clinic.
Ahimbisimbwe Ongo says that they are going to expand their operation to cover all private clinics in Rukungiri district noting that it has become a public concern as medicines are not found in government health centers yet they are supplied with the same.
The clinic owners have been ordered to record statements at Rukungiri central police station and the impounded government drugs were taken to police pending further investigations into how they ended up in private clinics.
The Rukungiri district health officer Dr Mucunguzi Akasiima when approached for a comment on the issue of government drugs being found in private clinics explained that government extends support to some non-profit clinics and they are supplied with packages like vaccines, and medication for expectant mothers among other medical supplies.
