By Ambrose Kweronda
In Rukungiri–
Rukungiri farmers have received 111pigs as part of the government’s efforts to eradicate poverty out of the district.
The pigs were donated by the government under the Operation Wealth Creation Program to solve the income problems within the Communities.
The pigs were given to farmers yesterday at municipal headquarters in Eastern Division Rukungiri Municipality in Rukungiri District.
Rukungiri municipal mayor Charles Makuru warned the beneficiaries against selling these pigs and rather encouraged them to use the pigs eradicate poverty out of their homes.
He advised them to feed their gilts on balanced diet if they are to benefit from them within a shortest period of time.
The Rukungiri district operation wealth creation coordinator Col. Martin Nahurira who represented RDC said that they will monitor and supervise beneficiaries thus encouraging them to be committed in taking care of the donation if it’s to serve its intended purpose.
Col Martin revealed that they used “demand select concept” to distribute these pigs assuring people that the government is still bringing in more seed capital to help them fight poverty.
“Whatever we have given you is not for sale. Take them to your homes, look after them so that they can help to stabilize your financial status” Nahurira narrated.
Mr. Tagobya Prosper the Rukungiri municipal deputy town clerk encouraged the people who have not yet benefited to remain patient and wait for their time as the government is still thinking about them.
Some farmers whom our reporter interacted with were optimistic that the donation will get them out of the vicious circle of poverty to self-reliant citizens.
