RUKUNGIRI FIRST ICT TRAINING EXCITES RURAL PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

Rural primary school teachers from Nyarushanje sub- County in Rukungiri district are beaming with excitement following the acquisition of computer skills.
They now see a prospect of e-learning and linking up with the rest of the world.
The computer training was organized by peer link initiative Uganda, a community based organization with support from Segal family foundation with an intension of building capacity of rural primary school teachers to utilize ICT in facilitating the teaching and learning processes during covid-19 times.
Scovia Akampurira, a teacher at Kayanga p/s in Kisiize parish Nyarushanje Sub- County said they are excited that they now have the capacity of accessing information communication technology tools for teaching.
Audrey Tumwebaze, a teacher at Katunga p/s, explained that it bridge the gap between their rural teachers and those in urban Centres.
Olivia Mugabirwe, the director peer link initiative Uganda said they organized the computer training for only rural primary school teachers to create a venue for primary school teachers to access information technology tools, equip them with information and technology skills .
She also said that the training also aimed at building capacity of rural primary school teachers to integrate ICT in their teaching and learning process plus strengthening the network and partnership between primary school teachers through collective content in their respective teaching subjects.
Michael Musime, LCIII chairperson Nyarushanje sub- county hailed the organization for committing its contribution to the illiteracy and ignorance fighting saying that the government of Uganda is trying all it can in chasing illiteracy and ignorance among Ugandans.
A total of 28 primary schools participated in the training and the training saw over 100 teachers equipped with computer skills.
