RUKUNGIRI MAN ARRESTED FOR SELLING MARIJUANA, 4 ACRES DESTROYED

Police in Rukungiri district has destroyed 4 acres of marijuana gardens in an operation conducted in today’s afternoon hours.
The operation came after a section of residents from Buyanja sub- County tipped the police that there is an ongoing Marijuana business in their area.
This forced the police together with the sub- county leaders and some residents to conduct an operation that saw one person arrested and 4 acres of Marijuana gardens seriously destroyed.
The operation led by Henry Kintu, the Rukungiri district police commander, was conducted in Kanombe cell, Nyabitete parish in Buyanja sub- county Rukungiri district.
Kintu told our reporter that the destroyed gardens belonged to Ashraf Taryebwa, 32 a resident of Kanombe cell Nyabitete parish in Buyanja sub- county Rukungiri district.
Kintu cautioned residents against planting marijuana saying that it is illegal and therefore any caught will be charged by the law accordingly.
Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the area lc3 chairperson acknowledge there is rampant growing of marijuana in the sub- county saying that him and the officer in charge of Buyanja police post have been conducting community policing against marijuana but people have remained growing it.
6 months back, 2 acres of Marijuana gardens were also destroyed by the police in the same area.
