RUKUNGIRI RENOWNED EVANGELIST DIES AT 107 YEARS

Rev Canon John Eric Kirebete one of the first evangelists in Rukungiri district has died.
Rev. Can. Kiberete passed on yesterday at an age of 107 according to one of the family members.
Rev Kirebete was one of the first persons to join evangelism alongside Rev Thomas Kakiza of Kebisoni Sub County another eldest clergy who died two weeks ago at the age of 120 years.
“Papa has lived all his life in church and by 1988, he was already retired from the church ministry” The family member told this www.mknewslink.com this morning.
Rev. Can. John Eric Kirebete served in several places in the then Diocese of Kigezi before the creation of North Kigezi Diocese in 1980 after which he retired.
He pioneered the establishment of several church schools which were later taken over by the government.
After retiring from Church service, Rev Eric Kirebete retired into farming at his home in Bwanga – Omukiyenje where he has lived up to date.
Rev. Can. Eric Kirebete is survived by a widow and 8 children who include the Mbarara based businessman Topher Katarikawe and Nathan Mugisha Kirebete, the former Archdeacon of Kakinga Archdeaconry in Kebisoni Sub county Rukungiri District who retired in December 2019.
Sheila Kirebete one of his grandchildren who once contested for Rukungiri Woman Parliamentary Seat said the family will announce the burial program later in the day.
Burial is tomorrow Sunday February 14th 2021 at his home in Bwanga – Omukiyenje in Nyarushanje Sub County in Rukungiri District.
