Salon operators in Rukungiri Municipality under their umbrella body” Rukungiri Salon Association” have today stormed the office of Resident District Commissioner’s (RDC) demanding for relief food.
The bitter salon operators through their chairperson Simon Agaba, said that they are facing it hot after 3 months of not working adding that their current situation is complicated to the extent that some sleep with empty stomach.
Agaba added that landlords have started asking them to clear their rent arrears or vacate their premises adding that the situation they are going through forced them to seek assistance from the RDC’S office.
Peace Kworakunde another salon operator said she borrowed money from the bank to start a salon business but now she has started receiving reminders from the creditors to clear her loan yet she is not working.
Kworakunde added that she is now worried with no alternative as she may lose her plot of land which she used as collateral.
Dan Kaguta, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner called for calmness saying that it is not intended to have their business closed but rather a control measure to stop the spread of corona virus in the country.
Kaguta said that he intends to engage some money lenders to defer repayment of their loans so as to ease pressure on the salon operators.
Later on, every salon operator moved away with 5Kgs of Millet flour for survival as the RDC promised them a quick response regarding their issues.
