RUKUNGIRI SCIENCE TEACHERS TO JOIN NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL ACTION OVER PAY

Science teachers from secondary schools in Rukungiri district under their Umbrella oraganisation , the Uganda Professional Science Teachers Union (UPSTU) are to announce a sit-down strike effective 9th May 2022 a if their complaints are not answered .
In 2018, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ordered the Ministry of Public Service to secure 98 billion shillings for the enhancement of Secondary Science teachers salaries across the country where some districts received one month and other districts three months
In the financial year 2022/2023 which will start in July 2022, the budget allocates them 111 billion shillings which they are not sure of benefiting from them.
The Uganda Professional Science Teachers Union (UPSTU) brings together 14,000 scientist teachers who are Secondary school Science teachers, Science Tutors, and NTC science lecturers across the whole country who complained of being underlooked because Science health workers are benefiting.
On Saturday 23rd April 2022, representatives of Uganda Professional Science Teachers Union held a National Executive council meeting led by their chairperson Elonga Vicent and resolved to strike, on Saturday 30th April 2022 they held a Kigezi Regional meeting in Kabale town and resolved to implement the decision of laying down their tools.
The science teachers from Rukungiri district are expected to meet on Thursday 5th May 2022 to officially announce the strike.
The Kigezi Region UPSTU Vice-chairperson Caroline Mirembe, a teacher at Kagunga Seed School affirms that the government claims that they don’t have the money yet they elevated pay for medical workers and noted that they will teach after getting the money.
