In Rukungiri–
Rukungiri municipality councilors are blaming town clerk and technical
staff for failure to implement their resolutions during their
council sessions.
Councilors accuse the office of town clerk and its technical staff
of defying implementing their resolution to bann all sports betting
halls in the Rukungiri municipality which they passed in the last council
sitting on August 31st 2017.
The Rukungiri Municipal mayor; Charles Makuru says that councilors
passed a resolution to ban all sports betting halls that have
increased theft among the youth in the town but the town clerk has done nothing to implement it.
He adds that majority of councilors supported the resolution to ban the sports betting halls but up to now the illicit business is operational.
However the office of the town clerk says all the sports betting
halls are already licensed and the municipal authorities can not close them until their licenses expire.
They further says his office will not license them again so they should
be patient.“we could not close their businesses when they have paid license fees”.
There are four sports betting halls in Rukungiri municipality and all of them are already licensed by the municipal authorities.
