RUKUNGIRI: WOMAN COMMITS SUICIDE OVER HIV INFECTION

Rukungiri district police are investigating circumstances surrounding the suicide of Merida Kamusiime.

Kamusiime 36 was a resident of Omukitembe cell, Kicwamba parish Ruhinda Sub County in Rukungiri District.

It’s alleged that the deceased had had a long time fight with her husband Henry Nuwagaba accusing him of infecting her with HIV virus.

Kamusiime had so far attempted to commit suicide on two occasions, recent one being in December 2019 when she took poison but survived at Nyakibale hospital.

Elly Maate the Kigezi region police mouthpiece said that Kamusiime separated with the husband on Wednesday Jan 1^st 2020 and went to her biological home but returned to the husband’s home on Tuesday Jan 7^th 2020.

However, on Wednesday Jan 8^th 2020 after supper, the deceased asked his son for the kitchen keys where she went and locked up herself.

After along time of waiting, the husband and the son went to check on her, but found the kitchen locked from inside then the duo broke into the kitchen and found Kamusime hanging on a rope.

Maate said that Police visited the scene, did postmortem and handed the body over to the relatives for burial as investigation commence at Rukungiri police station vide CRB. O60/2020.

This is not the first time the same incident is registered in Rukungiri district. On 27/12/2019 Silverio Mahengyeka 65 was found hanging in a mango tree near his home.

It’s alleged that on 27/12/19 evening, the deceased told his wife Generoza Hamunanuko that he must die that day the statements Generoza never took serious.
