RUKUTANA’S COURT CASE: I DREW GUN TO SAVE MY SON FROM HIS ATTACKERS
By Ambrose Kweronda
In Ntungamo—-
State Minister for Labor and International Relations Mwesigwa Rukutana has today denied all the charges slapped against in Ntungamo district.
The charges stem from an incident in which the minister allegedly pulled an AK 47 riffle on supporters of his then contender in the Rushenyi NRM Parliamentary primaries.
The minister today morning appeared before the Ntungamo Chief Magistrates Court to defend himself on charges that of; Attempted Murder, Assault, Malicious Damage and threatening Violence.
He defended himself that his September 5th 2020 action of pointing a gun at his opponent’s supporters was prompted by parental instincts and urge to protect his son from danger.
Rukutana narrated to court that his son called him on phone that some people who were traveling in a dark tinted car had waylaid and blocked the vehicle in which he was traveling with a local church leader, one Rev. Peter Rubambira.
“From there, my fear increased tremendously. The parent in me came out. I feared for my son being murdered by those people, because I thought they might even be armed. So I rushed to the scene,”
Rukutana said.
He told court this was the reason why he snatched a gun from one of his guards and used it to secure the freedom of his son.
Few days earlier according to Rukutana, the group had threatened to burn one of his agents, Dan Nabimanya alive.
Minister Rukutana thus asked court to acquit him of all charges and that his guns which were withdrawn from him as exhibits be returned to him.
