In Rwampara—
Police in Rwizi region are investigating circumstances under which a man was murdered in cold blood as he tried to rescue his pigs from thieves.
The deceased Alosyious Bitakamanyirwe alias Uganda aged 68 years is a resident of Buterera cell, Kibingo ward Rweibogo , Kibingo Town council, Rwampara district.
Samson Kasasira the Rwizi region police mouthpiece told journalists in a press statement that the deceased was murdered at his home on 17th June 2021 at around 01:00am.
Kasasira told www.mknewslink.com reporter that unknown assailants made an alarm that the deceased’s pigs were being stolen and as he moved out to respond, he was cut in the neck at his door step and died instantly.
Police findings indicated that the deceased could have been killed over wetlands since he has been the chairman of the committee that works with ACCORD to fight against wetland degradation.
“Some locals had owned the wetland to an extent of selling part of it to others until three days ago when NEMA officials in company of the area Resident District Commissioner decided to evict whoever was using the wetland by destroying whatever plants that had been planted there,” Kasasira noted.
He explained that this sparked anger among the area Residents who attacked families of those who advocated for their eviction including the deceased.
The scene of the crime was visited and documented by a team of police SOCO while the body of the deceased was examined, and handed over to relatives for a decent burial.
With the help of a sniffer dog, two people were arrested to help in the investigations as Police hunt for more suspects.
