Rwandan soldiers have allegedly kidnapped another Ugandan farmer from his garden in Mushenyi village Karuhanga parish Rubaya Sub County Kabale district along Uganda Rwanda border.
The victim has been identified as Levi Byomuhangi a resident of Rugarama village Nyinamuronzi ward Katuna Town council Kabale district.
According to the Rubaya Sub County Chairperson, Saime Twesigomwe, the soldiers dressed in Rwandan army uniforms arrested and disappeared with Byomuhangi to Rwandan side as he moved from Mushenyi village, where he has been burning charcoal and having some gardens.
He added that the victim had been preparing charcoal since morning though Rwanda security officers are claiming that he was seen smuggling goods.
The Katuna Town council Chairperson Nelson Nshangabasheija who described the incident as unfortunate said that Byomuhangi’s family is now in fears that the Rwandan army could kill him since many Ugandans have been shot dead by the Rwandan army.
Nshangabasheija called for diplomatic talks between President Museveni and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame aimed at Strengthening the cooperation and unity between the two East African countries.
This is not the first time Rwandan soldiers have kidnapping Ugandans.
On 28th May this year, Obed Nicholas Tugumisirize a Ugandan farmer was kidnapped from his garden in Kitojo village Katuna Town council along Uganda Rwanda border and later released by Rwandan soldiers.
In April 2019, three Ugandan farmers, Susan Rwanjungu, Junensia Bazongoza and Jovia Ruvungafu all residents in Katuna Town council were also kidnapped by Rwandan soldiers.
By the time of filing this story, Byomuhangi’s relatives were preparing to go to Police to report a case of a missing person.
The Uganda Rwanda border has been closed since February last year following a diplomatic row between the two countries.
Rwanda initially said it had closed the borders due to the construction of the one border post but later Rwandan authorities accused Uganda of harboring, sponsoring and facilitating dissidents of the Rwandan government.
